Job Description

SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER/SCIENTIST
  • You will make strategic planning decisions affecting squadron operations while providing continuity and corporate knowledge of squadron functions and a forward-looking visionary view as to the direction of squadron work.
  • You will establish, and be responsible for the technical, administrative, and financial management of the squadron.
  • You will make decisions involving the recruiting, selection, training, evaluating, awarding and disciplining of subordinate civil service employees.
  • You will support special studies, initiatives, and responses to programs and data calls.
  • You will assess the technical progress of programs.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position is a designated Critical Acquisition Position (CAP). You must sign a three-year tenure agreement prior to assuming the position unless a tenure waiver is approved.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics.
You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1.) Leading multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams in the execution of complex technical operations providing strategic direction, mentoring civilian and military personnel, aligning team efforts with broader command mission objectives, and driving critical decision-making in a high-stakes operational environment. 2.) Planning, coordination, and execution of Developmental Test and Evaluation (DT&E) for aviation platforms such as formulating comprehensive test plans, managing test risk, overseeing flight test execution, and analyzing post-flight data to ensure compliance with strict safety, performance, and airworthiness standards. 3.) Forecasting, allocating, and optimizing critical resources to meet stringent mission timelines. 4.) Experience in the formulation, execution, and oversight of complex budgets. 5.) Experience building and sustaining strategic, collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders. Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, t should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
