Job Description
Summary You will serve as a
HEALTH PHYSICIST
in the Radiological Control Office (C105) ofPEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Learn more about this agency Duties Help You will apply a general understanding of the health physics/engineering methods and techniques in order to provide technical guidance on radiological emergency planning best practices to internal and external customers. You will collect and analyze data to support radiological emergency planning functions and proactive radiological accident prevention efforts. You will assist in the preparation, coordination, and implementation of radiological accident emergency planning guidelines, objectives, and training/drills. You will assist in the preparation and dissemination of plans and reports related to radiological emergency planning functions and best practices. You will assist in the conducting of radiological accident emergency planning analysis, investigations, tests, and/or surveys. You will assist in the evaluation of radiological control procedures and spaces in order to identify areas for improvement, develop recommendations, and ensure corrective actions are implemented in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes as required during worksite visits. Qualifications GS-09 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professionalHEALTH PHYSICIST
providing radiation emergency planning functions for a team or unit such as: assisting with the collection, preparation, analysis, and evaluation of radiation survey data and reports; recommending improvements to radiological control practices and prevention efforts; assisting in the development of radiological control technical documentation, training, and presentations; and/or utilizing professional health physics theories, methods, and principles to provide informed technical guidance on radiological control policies and procedures. Applicants must posses:Degree:
natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. or Combination of education and experience courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience GS-09- Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; or
- Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree; or
- A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience GS-07
- Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education; or
- Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement; or
- A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
