We are seeking an entry-level Health Physicist I (Radiation Safety / Medical Health Physics) to join Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York, NY. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to build hands-on experience in radiation safety, health physics, and regulatory compliance within a world-class cancer care and research environment. The Medical Health Physics service provides critical guidance and oversight for the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations while supporting patient care, research, and education.Role Overview:
As a Health Physicist I, you will support the implementation of MSK's radiation protection and safety program across clinical and research settings. You will collaborate with medical physicists, physicians, radiologists, nurses, and researchers to promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and ALARA principles. Performing radiation surveys in clinical and research laboratories involving radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. Monitoring and evaluating radiation exposure levels for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Supporting dosimetry programs, including badge distribution, tracking, and vendor coordination Educating staff on radiation safety procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements Counseling patients and families on radiation safety precautions Conducting radioactive waste surveys, packaging, and preparation for disposal in accordance with regulatory guidelines Assisting with inventory and inspection of radiation safety equipment, including leaded garments and sealed sources Supporting emergency preparedness and radiation safety response initiatives Maintaining accurate documentation of radiation monitoring data, patient records, instrumentation, and compliance reports Utilizing systems and tools such as Excel, SharePoint, and radiation safety/dosimetry tracking systems Participating in on-call or off-hours emergency response as neededKey Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Physics, Medical Physics, or a related natural science field 0-2 years of experience in health physics, radiation safety, medical physics, or a related field Entry-level candidates and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to applyCore Skills:
Strong understanding of radiation safety, radiation protection principles, and ALARA concepts Knowledge of radioactive materials handling, dosimetry, and radiation monitoring techniques Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards (e.g., NRC, state regulations) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, methodical approach Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to educate diverse audiences Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and database systems; SharePoint experience preferred High level of organization, attention to detail, and data accuracy Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical and research environmentAdditional Information:
