Job Description

JOB DETAILS
This Radiation Physicist role is based in Houston, Texas, a dynamic and rapidly growing city known for its world-class healthcare institutions and thriving medical community. Houston offers an outstanding quality of life, combining the energy of a large metropolitan area with welcoming neighborhoods, diverse cultural offerings, and a relatively affordable cost of living compared to many other major cities. Houston is home to the famed Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world, fostering a culture of innovation, research, and advanced patient care in oncology and beyond. The city's strong focus on healthcare and science supports a robust environment for professional growth in radiation physics and related specialties. The area's commitment to medical excellence and continuous improvement provides a natural platform for physics professionals to expand their clinical expertise and participate in meaningful, cutting-edge work. Beyond work, Houston offers a rich array of attractions and experiences. Residents enjoy an internationally recognized culinary scene, a vibrant arts district, and numerous museums including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA's Johnson Space Center, is a short drive away and reflects the city's longstanding connection to science and exploration. Major league sports teams, live music venues, festivals, and year-round events provide entertainment for every interest. The region's neighborhoods range from urban high-rise living to quiet, family-friendly communities with parks, trails, and highly regarded schools. Within this role, the Radiation Physicist will provide comprehensive clinical physics support in a modern radiation oncology department. The environment typically includes state-of-the-art linear accelerators, advanced treatment planning systems, image-guided radiation therapy platforms, and sophisticated quality assurance tools. The position may involve working within a multidisciplinary team that includes radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, nurses, and support staff focused on delivering safe, precise, and effective radiation therapy. Day-to-day responsibilities include patient-specific treatment planning support, chart checks, machine and patient quality assurance, and ongoing equipment performance evaluations. The Radiation Physicist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable safety standards and regulations, as well as maintaining accurate documentation and quality records. Routine duties may include monthly and annual machine QA, participation in commissioning new technology, and assisting in the development and implementation of clinical protocols. Typical procedures supported in this environment may include 3D conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, VMAT, image-guided radiation therapy, and selected stereotactic techniques. Depending on the practice, there may also be opportunities to be involved in specialized procedures such as SBRT, SRS, or brachytherapy. Patient volumes and case complexity can be robust, offering exposure to a wide spectrum of disease sites and treatment modalities, which can be an excellent builder of clinical experience and confidence. The schedule generally follows standard weekday hours, with participation in occasional after-hours or weekend work as needed for urgent clinical needs, equipment maintenance, or special projects. Call responsibilities, if present, are typically shared among the physics team to support a balanced workload. The team environment often emphasizes collaboration, open communication, and shared problem-solving, making it a supportive setting for both experienced physicists and those continuing to grow in their careers. In this position, the Radiation Physicist will have the opportunity to contribute to clinical innovation, quality improvement initiatives, and potentially research or education, depending on the practice's focus. The role offers a clear path for professional development in a major U.S. medical hub, coupled with the benefits of living in a culturally rich and forward-looking city like Houston.
