Time Commitment :
September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027 This is a full-time, 11-month, 1700-hour program from September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027. Fellows in this position commit to a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, approximately 9AM - 5PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 170-340 of these hours are dedicated to professional development. •Please note : Due to the full-time commitment of the Fellowship, students enrolled in undergraduate courses between Sep 21, 2026 - Aug 13, 2027 will not be eligible to participate in the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship. —— About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship The California Climate Action Corps has over 400 positions available across California for the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—with 170-340 dedicated hours for professional development and training, providing hands-on experience in the climate field. CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion. ——— Applications are accepted May 1 - July 31, 2026, with priority consideration given to applicants who apply and undergo a CCAC info session before June 19. ——— Program Benefits CSU Chico is proud of our active and engaged students, staff and faculty with strong connections with the local community. Receive a $35,250 stipend (before taxes) distributed evenly over the 11-month service term Receive $10,000 in education awards (before taxes and upon completion of 1700 hours) Participation in 170-340 hours of training and professional development Receive $300 in professional development funds Receive food assistance via CalFresh (for those eligible) Forbearance on existing qualifying student loans and interest payments accrued during the service term Minimum essential healthcare coverage Childcare assistance (for those eligible) Description of Duties Chico State aims to accelerate tribal, campus, and community efforts in climate action through volunteer events, climate education, and a heightened awareness of climate urgency. Our primary focus is urban greening with secondary emphases on organic waste and edible food recovery, wildfire resilience, food sovereignty, indigenous cultural knowledge, and emergency preparedness. Chico State's CCAC Fellows will develop a well-rounded skillset to achieve positive climate outcomes. Fellows will collaborate with partners to bolster their entities' missions through volunteerism and education, fostering resilience across vulnerable communities. They will accelerate positive climate outcomes by serving with the Office of Tribal Relations or other campus-based programs. With a strong network of partners to accelerate success, Fellows will join us at Chico State to champion sustainability, promote positive climate action, and cultivate personal and community growth in the pursuit of a resilient future.
Point of Pride:
To date, 80% of the full-time Fellows have entered professional climate-related professional careers, are enrolled in climate-aligned graduate programs, or serve as 2nd term Fellows. Another 14% have embedded knowledge and skills gained through their CCAC Fellowships into their careers or volunteer endeavors. 94% of the Chico State team embodies the Corps to Career trajectory. Duties include, but are not limited to: Leading multiple community events to recruit volunteers committed to climate action—including fuel reduction, tree planting, park/trail projects, native gardens, food forests, and communitarian initiatives (about 40% of your Fellowship hours) Contributing to measurable outcomes in urban greening, organic waste and edible food recovery, wildfire resilience, food sovereignty, and emergency preparedness through direct action (about 20% of your Fellowship hours) Designing and delivering engaging and effective climate education to inspire positive climate action (about 20% of your Fellowship hours). Increasing your knowledge and confidence through professional development and training aligned with the focus areas of California Climate Action Corps (about 20% of our Fellowship hours. Integrating the Climate Action Counts campaign into volunteer recruiting, climate education, and climate engagement activities and delivering effective climate education to inspire positive climate action. You will do this by collaborating with partners and other Fellows; promoting a culture of climate action and resilience across diverse populations and in vulnerable communities; leveraging campus, tribal, and community expertise and resources; and tracking climate action, education, and volunteer metrics for program reporting and improvement. Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements Live in California by August 14, 2026 Be at least 18 years of age by August 14, 2026 Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate Preferred Qualifications/Skills Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, community outreach, composting, diverse outdoor conditions (rain, wind, heat, steep or uneven terrain), edible food recovery, environmental education, event coordination & planning, habitat restoration, home hardening/defensible space, Microsoft Office Suite and Teams, native plant management, project management, public speaking/facilitation, traditional ecological knowledge, tree planting/care, and volunteer management & engagement. Access to a reliable vehicle and must possess a valid driver's license. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills
