A Research Assistant assists with a research program or project. Works in a variety of fields within science or the social sciences, in programs based at a university or research institution, or works on government or industry sponsored research projects. Conducts field or library research or recruits participants for a study; may also assist with legal research. Typically conduct research under the guidance of senior researchers or professors. These roles are often held by undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in relevant fields, or individuals with relevant work experience.
: The Cal Poly Pomona Foundation is currently searching for two (2) student research assistants for work on an ongoing research project within the Department of Architecture, titled "
The Architecture of Polarization:
How Our Buildings and Builders Shape our Politics," led by Dr. Aaron Cayer. The successful candidate should have strong organizational, research, and communication skills and should be an upperclassman studying architecture.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
(this is just a small sampling of work variety): Work alongside faculty and software developers to explore, test, and troubleshoot urban simulation platforms using GIS that simulate how political preferences change in tune with urban development Coordinate with other student research assistants to ensure the timely completion of tasks per grant timelines Produce graphically clear reports and visuals that communicate research findings Adhere to a regular work schedule which may include evenings and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS
: Undergraduate or graduate students studying urban and regional planning and/or GIS and/or architecture Strong research, organizational, and communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others. Proficiency in GIS required Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel) and other relevant software applications. Proficiency in Adobe graphics suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) and other relevant software applications.
