The incumbent researches and independently implements methods in support of ongoing and future laboratory and clinical trials primarily focused on areas relevant to foods, nutrition, and metabolism. The incumbent consults with the academic supervisor and other academic or professional researchers on the nature and overall objectives to be achieved, advising them on the more difficult and problematic areas they may encounter and suggests solutions, and, when necessary, provides training. This position is integral to future program project and grant funding, and to the success of the Department of Surgery in finding better treatments to improve the lives of patients with disease. Funding for this position is confirmed, but not guaranteed, through 6/30/2027 with the possibility of extension through at least 6/30/2028 depending on project funding and research strategy decisions. Bachelor's degree in related scientific field. High degree of experience in analyte quantitation in biospecimens, especially from human studies and animal models. Experience in advanced cell biology and molecular biology techniques. Experience in processing and storage of human and non-human tissues and blood plasma/serum/whole blood. Ability to learn and flow basic and appropriate lab safety procedures. Excellent writing skills and previous experience in writing manuscripts, abstracts, and grant proposals; familiarity with clinical study documents. Excellent knowledge of computer applications: Microsoft Outlook, statistical software packages, spreadsheets (Excel), bibliography software, Pubmed, Word, etc. Strong knowledge of human studies processes, including but not limited to participant interaction and consenting, biospecimen collection and processing, record-keeping in systems such as RedCap or similar, and maintaining privacy. Ability to work independently with emphasis on the ability to closely follow SOPs. Excellent project management, research and data skills. Strong organizational, planning and communication skills. Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to pay close attention to details. Ability to organize data, keep careful records and notebooks. Ability to meet multiple timelines concurrently. Self-direction in a team environment. Proven ability to update collaborators with project details. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred. Previous experience in consenting patients for studies. Demonstrated experience working with multiple teams and balancing timelines and core needs. Experience interacting with professionals in multiple disciplines. Ability to work selflessly in a service role. Ability to help multiple investigators and multiple projects, rather than to focus on a preferred project. Key Responsibilities 80%
