Job Description
The expected hiring range for this position is: $15.00-$25.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Fermilab is seeking a highly motivated Undergraduate Student Research Assistant. Under direct supervision, the Undergraduate Research Assistant position is composed of college and university students enrolled in a program specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), or Computing and Accelerator Science curriculum. What your day-to-day as a Student Research Assistant at Fermilab will look like: Works along-side staff to provide technical assistance on project-based tasks and/or research. Investigates, defines, and proposes solutions to assigned technical and scientific problems. Activities include but are not limited to assistance with data analysis, assembly prototypes, calibration code and catalogs, test set-up and monitoring, general contribution to operation of facilities, and application of modeling and simulation tools. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position. Success:
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate STEM program at an accredited college or university, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 in core technical coursework.Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work proficiently with hand tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers) for mechanical assembly. Strong computer literacy is required. Must be a self-starter capable of working independently or collaboratively within a diverse team environment. A meticulous, detail-oriented approach to technical tasks is essential. Proficiency in mechanical CAD, particularly parametric modeling strongly preferred (e.g., Onshape, SolidWorks, Autocad Inventor or similar). A proven track record of completing electronic or mechanical projects, whether through formal coursework or personal hobbies. Experience with Python programming and the Linux operating system. Candidates must be available for up to 20 hours/week during the academic year and 40 hours/week during the summer months on site in Batavia, IL.Why Fermilab:
