June 5, 2026 Carleton University invites applications from outstandingresearch scholars for an NSERCTier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in HealthCare Simulation, to be held at the rank of Associate Professor or FullProfessor, with tenure.

Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs are intended foroutstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in theirfields. Appointment is conditional on the approval of thenomination bythe CRC Program. The successful candidate will demonstrate aninternationally recognized program of Natural Sciences and Engineering(NSE)research that advances the application and development of computer science, AI,data science, and or augmented / virtual reality asthey relate to health caresimulation, outcome-based performance, training and coaching systems, andsimulation-informed design thinking.

The successful incumbent will be a strategic andindependent NSE researchleader who is excited by the opportunity to build on astrong foundation while shaping a largely open research landscape. This is abuilderrole suited to a scholar who seeks a collaborative, interdisciplinaryenvironment and who will actively pursue partnerships across academic,clinical, and technology communities. Research Focus The Chair's research program must align with the subjectmattereligibility of NSERC, with a primary emphasis on technology developmentand application, while clearly demonstrating impact within healthand healthcare contexts. Areas of research interest include, but are not limited to: Health care simulation systems and platformsArtificial intelligence and data-drivenapproaches to simulation, training, and performance assessment Virtual, augmented, and mixedrealityapplications in healthcare delivery, education and practice Human-centered systems design and outcome-basedevaluation insimulatedenvironments Computational modeling and analytics to supporthealthcare decision-making, learning, and safety Simulation-based NSEinnovations in healthcare Candidates may be appointed in the Nursing,Computer Science, or another academic unit,with cross-appointmentopportunities available where appropriate While direct clinical research experience is notrequired, thesuccessful candidate mustdemonstrate a commitment tohealth-driven research questions and meaningful engagement with healtheducation andpractice contexts About the Academic Unit In addition to leading a high-impact research program,the Chair will serveas a senior researchinformant and academic leadersupporting the development of Carleton University's graduate programs inNursing andinterprofessional healtheducation.
The successful candidate will:
Contribute to shaping technology-forwardgraduate curriculaand research Mentorgraduate students and postdoctoralfellows drawn from nursing, computer science, or engineering Play aformative role in developing graduateprogramming Collaborate with colleagues to embed simulation,data science, and emergingtechnologies across teaching and research Carleton's School of Nursing welcomed its inauguralundergraduate cohort in September 2025and is experiencing exceptional demand.

Graduate programming is under active development, offering a rare opportunityfor a Tier 1 Chair toinfluence program architecture from theoutset. Partnerships and Research Environment Carleton University is locatedin the nation's capitaland is embeddedwithin a rich ecosystem of research institutes, governmentorganizations, and technology partners.

The successful candidate will beencouraged and supported to build external research partnerships, including butnot limited tocollaborations with regional health careproviders and nationaland international research networks.
Qualifications Carleton University requires:
APhD in health technology, computer science,engineering, nursing with a technology focus, or aclosely related discipline. Aninternationally recognized record of researchexcellence and leadership appropriate for an NSERC Tier 1CRC nomination. A sustained recordof high-impact publicationsand successful external NSE-focused research funding. Demonstratedexceptional training and mentorshipprogramfor diverse undergraduate and graduate students, as well aspostdoctoral fellows. Acollaborative approach to research and astrongcommitment to mentoring. Dedication to advancing equity, diversity, andinclusion inresearch design and practice, and mentoring.

Demonstrated record of innovative and scholarlyNSE research and the ability to lead anexternally funded, high qualityresearch program.

High potential for collaborative research withexisting members of Nursing and orComputer Science is an asset.
