Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
Depending on the program's needs, the Research Associate will provide support in multiple areas of Enteric pathogen research. Conducting bench research on Shigella (or other enteric pathogens) subunit or live vaccine candidates. Assisting in the evaluation of Shigella vaccines in clinical and pre-clinical studies to include immunizing small animals, collecting blood, lymph nodes, and mucosal washes, and determining immune responses elicited after vaccination. Assisting in pre-clinical evaluation of prototype diagnostic devices for the detection of Shigella and other enteric pathogens from complex biological matrices such as stool. Assisting in the daily maintenance and operations of the lab, including media preparation, glassware, and hazardous waste management, as well as administrative duties such as ordering supplies and periodic lab inventories. Establishing and/or developing laboratory procedures and analyzing and/or evaluating research data; participating in a cooperative effort to accomplish the goals of the laboratory; maintaining proficiency and expertise in the field of research. Utilizing professional knowledge of theories, principles, methods, and techniques related to molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, and microbial pathogenesis.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in scientific discipline Recent college graduate with exposure and interest in biological sciences related to human infectious diseases. NACI Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the following research equipment is preferred but not required: Centrifuges, scales, microscopes, gel electrophoresis systems, cell counters, cell separation devices, and fermenters. Familiarity with the following typical procedures is preferred but not required: Aseptic technique, small animal handling, cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, protein assays, fermentation and purifications, and immunological functional assays. Fluency with Windows operating system, Apple operating system, and Microsoft Office software suite. Pay and Benefits The salary range for this position is $57,000 to $63,000 annually.
