This research also provides significant support to the acquisition community. To fulfill this mission, there is a requirement for senior experimental ballistics subject matter expert. Intrepid seeks a Senior Experimental Ballistics SME III to collaborate with engineers in advancing the development of next-generation ammunition for experimental applications. This role involves providing technical guidance in the design and fabrication of experimental test fixtures, facilitating the integration of novel technologies, and establishing strategic connections with active military units and industry partners to support the development, evaluation, and transition of innovative solutions.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with research engineers to independently design, develop, and assemble a diverse array of complex, non-standard experimental prototypes, structures, and fixtures, with a specialized focus on ballistics and precision ammunition. Conduct advanced load development and precision loading of experimental ammunition, leveraging expertise in ballistics to optimize performance characteristics and ensure consistency across test articles. Utilize a range of specialized equipment, including loaders, presses, precision measurement devices, and experimental apparatus, to fabricate and prepare novel ammunition designs tailored to specific research objectives. Apply technical expertise to innovate and refine ammunition designs, ensuring compatibility with experimental test fixtures and alignment with the unique requirements of advanced ballistic research programs. Act as a range safety officer (RSO) Provide recommendations and implement improvements to the facility to enable state-of-the-art experimentation. Engage directly with active-duty military units and industry partners to facilitate the development, testing, and transition of advanced ammunition technologies, leveraging Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) to foster collaboration and accelerate innovation in ballistic research and applications.EDUCATION & EXPERINCE
Bachelor's Degree preferred Minimum 15 years of extensive expertise in precision weapons and ballistics, with a proven track record of advancing experimental ammunition technologies, conducting load development, and designing novel ammunition for precision applications. Deep knowledge of advanced ballistics principles, including the optimization of ammunition performance, the development of experimental test fixtures, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to support research objectives.SUGGESTED QUALIFICATIONS
Successfully complete all required training as mandated by the ARL safety office and facility manager, demonstrating proficiency in site-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring adherence to safety protocols across all branch facilities.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Perform physically demanding duties, including the setup and teardown of equipment and materials at test sites, with the ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Work often involves extended periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping, and is frequently conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions.
