A Research Technician provides technical support to a research program or project. Responsibilities typically include preparing laboratory materials, operating scientific equipment, performing experiments, collecting and recording data, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards. Works in a variety of fields within science or the social sciences, in programs based at a university or research institution, or works on government or industry sponsored research projects. Conducts field or library research or recruits participants for a study; may also assist with legal research. These roles typically have training in laboratory techniques and may hold relevant degrees or certifications to applicable fields.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent with two years' experience in a clinical research environment. Bachelor's degree preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or
REGISTRATION
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Demonstrates understanding of the research and organizes work assignment to maintain the scheduled study times for appropriate research events. 2. Carries out major experimental protocol events including EKGs, phlebotomy, urine collection, standard measurements, vital signs, and blood pressures. 3. Demonstrates knowledge and skills interacting with human participants, investigators, and other research support personnel. 4. Sets up and monitors data collection equipment. 5. According to protocol, collects and processes biologic specimens, including blood, urine, and saliva. 6. Conducts standardized chemical and physical tests on experimental or clinical materials/specimens. 7. Administers written and computerized tests and completes study forms as necessary. 8. Assists in preparation and distribution of meals as scheduled in protocols and completes documentation as necessary. 9. Travels to other hospital departments as required conducting clinical research procedures. 10. Follows universal/standard precautions and maintains clean and safe work and subject areas, reports unsafe work areas to appropriate leadership. 11. Maintains the safety and wellbeing of participants at all times. 12. Demonstrates professionalism and respect for subject rights and individual needs.
