Los Alamos, New Mexico What You Will Do The Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate. The position will include analyzing continuous seismic waveforms for application to evolving crustal properties through time. The work will involve developing and testing state-of-the-art machine learning models. Experience in deep learning model development is necessary. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists at LANL and with external academic partners. The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability. The position is on-site in Los Alamos, NM. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Research experience in deep learning model and applications in geophysics Publication record including geophysics and deep learning applications Proficiency in programing languages such as Python, C/C++ Experience using supercomputing and HPC resources Communication skills as evidenced by oral presentations at conferences Experience working on interdisciplinary teams Education/Experience A Ph.D. degree in a STEM field related to geodesy, seismology, geophysics, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, or other related fields. For a postdoctoral appointment the candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment or must be within five years of completion of the Ph.D.

Experience with big-data processing and analysis methods Experience with development or support of research projects and proposals Ability to plan and organize assignments to meet project deliverable Ability to bring creative solutions to complex problems Ability to obtain Q level clearance, which usually requires U.S. citizenship

No Clearance:
Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Internal Applicants:
Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
