Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated Junior Photonics Research Scientist for a 6-month full-time paid position, with established track record of conducting integrated photonics research to join our dynamic team dedicated to advancing cutting-edge integrated photonics technologies. In this role, you will contribute to innovative research projects focused on photonics device and system applications. Your work will involve semiconductor chip based device fabrication and semiconductor device measurements, and to support the development of next-generation integrated photonics devices and systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to grow your expertise in a collaborative environment that fosters innovation, technical excellence, and scientific discovery.
Duties include:
Hands-on device fabrication in a cleanroom utilizing processes such as photolithography, wet and dry etching, thin film deposition by sputtering or PECVD, metal lift-off and other standard cleanroom processes. Assist in designing photonic devices, layout CAD files for fabrication, and execute experiments related to photonics and chem-bio sensing and spectroscopy Assist in operating lab equipment including lasers, detectors, power meters, waveform generators, and other optical fiber and bulk components with precision and safety Collect, process, and analyze data using tools such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, and specialized software for signal processing and data visualization Contribute to research & development efforts by documenting procedures, results, and insights in detailed reports Collaborate with team members on the integration of chip based photonics components into experimental setups and prototypes Ensure compliance with safety standards in a high-tech research environment Skills Have a M.S. degree from major research universities in a related field. Exceptional candidates with B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and possessing the required skills will also be considered. At least 1-year hands-on experience working in a cleanroom preferred in processes such as photolithography, wet and dry etching, thin film deposition by sputtering or PECVD, metal lift-off and other standard cleanroom processes At least 2-years experience in scientific research methods within optics or photonics fields, preferably having worked in a photonics or optics lab. Experience in electronic chip based device measurements will also be considered. Hands-on laboratory experience with bulk optical elements, optical fibers etc. Knowledge of applications in photonics research for computing, communications and sensing. Data collection and analysis skills including experimental design and troubleshooting, data collection, interpretation, and visualization for research purposes Good written and oral presentation and communication skills Have legal working status in USA. Green card holders and US citizens are preferred but not a must. From $27.50 per hour
