The University of Alaska Office of Research is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Grants Analyst to support the financial and administrative management of externally funded projects. This position oversees dozens of active accounts and proposals, ranging from small awards to multi-million dollar grants, ensuringpliance with university, state, and federal regulations. Key responsibilities include budget review, expenditure monitoring, payment tracking, and serving as a liaison between faculty, staff, and sponsoring agencies.
As a Grant Analyst, you will play a critical role in managing, analyzing, and reporting on grant-related financial activities. You will interpret budgets and expenditure activity using systems such as Banner, ensuringpliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and institutional guidelines. You willmunicate clearly and professionally—both verbally and in writing—with internal teams and external stakeholders, providing exceptional customer service and support.
In this role, you will be expected to quickly learn new systems and processes, share knowledge with others, and contribute to a collaborative team environment. You should befortable speaking in public, presenting financial information, and working with input from multiple sources. Success in this position requires strong multitasking skills, the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize in a dynamic environment, and a consistentmitment to meeting deadlines. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and other software tools is essential.
To thrive in this role, one must possess strong analytical and interpretive skills, attention to detail, and deep knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing sponsored programs. Success requires the ability to independently interpret and applyplex policies including Uniform Guidance, OMB Circulars, EDGAR, and UA/State of Alaska procedures. The ideal candidate is an effectivemunicator and collaborative liaison who can guide faculty and staff through proposal development,pliance requirements, and post-award financial management. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and proficiency in systems such as Banner and Q-Menu are essential for managing high volumes of awards and ensuring audit-ready documentation. A proactive mindset, aptitude for training development, and capacity to identify and resolve issues in budget, effort reporting, labor distribution, and spendingpliance are critical for supporting both internal stakeholders and external sponsors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in accounting, statistics, or related field and six months professional fiscal experience, or an equivalentbination of education, training and experience.Position Details:
This position is located in Anchorage, Alaska, however flexible on-site, hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a term-funded, full-time, non-exempt staff positionplete with both apetitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generouspensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until a successful candidate is identified.
