Job Description Summary The Grants & Research Analyst III reports to the MUSC Health Grants and Research Director as part of the Office of Academic Integration, a team dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare in South Carolina through innovation, research, and collaboration. This position provides grants administration, financial, and compliance support across the sponsored-award lifecycle, helping the Grants and Research Office manage awards accurately, stay audit-ready, and improve performance. Under indirect supervision, the analyst supports pre-award and post-award processes, monitors award financials and compliance, and prepares the reports and dashboards leadership needs to make informed decisions. The position is onsite to ensure strong collaboration with MUSC Care Team Members. Key system responsibilities and tools include Cayuse, OnCore, Workday, Smartsheet, EPIC, and other supporting research and financial management software. The role requires both proactive problem-solving and responsive support, consistently delivered with professionalism and a commitment to excellent customer service. Research Pay Rate Type Salary Pay Grade Health-29 Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Work Shift Job Description Position Purpose As a collaborative contributor, the analyst participates in projects and business processes that enhance research operations, ensure compliance, streamline award management, and improve decision-making processes across MUSC. By integrating grants data into intelligent business solutions, this position supports the growth of MUSC's research and sponsored programs portfolio, directly contributing to MUSC's mission of advancing health and transforming care.
  • 25%: Assist the team with internal audit controls to ensure payroll integrity, fraud detection, fixed asset reporting, and supports the A-133 audit to assure sponsored-award compliance.
  • 15%: Serve as backup for, and provide training on, pre-award and post-award management of all sponsored-award processes.
  • 15%: Generate inventories of provider agreement contracts, perform level-of-effort analyses, and build financial compensation projection models for proposals and amendments.
  • 10%: Assist the Grants and Contracts Accounting (GCA) team with monitoring financial issues to ensure accurate award invoices, track payments, and prepare executive summaries for RHN Chief Medical Officers and Chief Financial Officers.
  • 10%: Collaborate with the ORSP and OCR teams to analyze sponsored-award data elements, emphasizing efficiency, fund utilization, and sponsor deliverable compliance.
  • 20%: Develop dashboards, charts, reports, and master schedules for grants and contract deliverables, and build automated reminders in Smartsheet.
  • 5%: Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description Candidate should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience: 3 to 5 years in research or grants administration, sponsored-programs or award management, and working in an academic medical center. Working knowledge of sponsored-award compliance (for example, Uniform Guidance / A-133) and pre-award and post-award processes. Proficiency with MS Office Suite. Preferred experience in Cayuse, OnCore, Workday, Smartsheet, Power BI, and a successful track record working with other team members to develop strategic solutions for consolidating data from various platforms.
