Research Assistant I - CNS - Radiation Oncology Research

The Research Assistant I supports laboratory-based research within the Radiation Oncology - Research department by providing technical and coordination support for experimental studies. The Research Assistant I coordinates and conducts experiments, operates laboratory equipment, records and evaluates research data, and supports day-to-day laboratory operations that contribute to advancing radiation oncology research. The Research Assistant I works closely with faculty leadership and laboratory team members to ensure research activities are conducted accurately, safely, and efficiently. The ideal candidate for the Research Assistant I position holds a bachelor's degree in a relevant life science discipline, has foundational experience or training in laboratory research, and demonstrates interest and capability in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and animal research, with the ability to communicate effectively, maintain accurate documentation, and work collaboratively in a research-focused environment. Minimum $39,500.00 ($18.99/hour) - Midpoint $49,500.00 ($23.80/hour) - Maximum $59,500.00 ($28.61/hour) Why Us? • Coordinate and conduct experiments in support of radiation oncology research projects
• Construct, assemble, and operate laboratory apparatus and equipment
• Perform experiments involving cell line models of cancer and human disease
• Analyze gene expression and proteomic changes using methods such as western blotting, quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, and gene expression profiling
• Apply basic molecular biology techniques including gene cloning, extracellular vesicle purification, cell culture experiments, and tangential flow filtration chromatography Animal Research & Mouse Colony Management
• Oversee general management of the laboratory mouse colony, accounting for approximately 25% of effort
• Accurately record phenotypic data including tissue and tumor measurements during necropsies
• Collect blood samples and administer medications or radiation therapy to animals
• Perform specialized techniques such as tumor xenografts, tail vein injection, intestinal crypt isolation, and necropsy, as applicable Laboratory Operations & Environment
• Maintain the laboratory environment including ordering supplies and organizing equipment
• Ensure laboratory apparatus and work areas are clean, orderly, and compliant with safety standards
• Serve as Laboratory Representative on the department Lab Council when assigned, attending meetings and communicating policies and updates to laboratory staff Data Management & Documentation
• Maintain clear, accurate, and accessible written and electronic laboratory records
• Record and evaluate research data according to established methods and supervisor guidance
• Read scientific literature and discuss new procedures with supervisors, modifying methods as needed for project requirements Communication & Collaboration
• Communicate regularly with the supervisor through daily discussions, biweekly meetings, laboratory meetings, and department seminars
• Collaborate effectively with other laboratory members to support shared research goals
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and safe work practices in daily activities

EDUCATION

Required:

Bachelor's Degree Basic Science.
