Student - Research Assistant UVU-USGS Bishop

Dr. Tara Bishop is looking for UVU students to do research as field technicians with Dr. Bishop and the US Geological Survey Southwest Biological Science Center, based in Moab, UT. The selected students will assist in summer field work to collect data on a variety of projects: asking questions about post-fire recovery, landscape management in the context of grazing and woodland treatments, and mining reclamation in drylands of the Colorado Plateau. Travel will be required to areas in Southeast Utah and/or the Uintah Basin. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Vegetation inventory and monitoring following established USGS and BLM protocols Soil sampling and analysis following established USGS protocols Prepping and packing for trips Sample inventory and quality assurance checking High school diploma or equivalent education Must be a current UVU student Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications Good verbal and written communication skills Good telephone, email, and customer service skills Attention to detail Professionalism Organizational skills Computer skills (Internet, Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Good work ethic/self-motivated Ability to be a team player Ability to interact and communicate in person and on the phone with college students Willingness to try/learn new things Knowledge of Facebook and Instagram and other social media Grade One year of experience related to the summary of duties Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Experience/skills with digital recording Experience with graphic design/data visualizations/infographics Experience posting on Facebook and Instagram/social media Type at least 50 words per minute Skills in proofreading, editing, spelling and grammar
