Job Purpose:
This position supports the research of environmental engineering faculty. The Research Technician will perform water treatment experiments to evaluate the performance of coagulation and powdered activated carbon to remove dissolved organic matter and disinfection byproduct precursors. Experiments will also be performed to evaluate dissolved organic matter leaching from burned soils and sediments. Initial tasks will also involve examining volatile organic compound sorption and desorption from plastic pipe materials. Analytical chemistry techniques such as GC-MS and LC-MS will be used.

  • Water Treatment Experiments Water treatment experiments will be performed using a jar test apparatus to test the performance of coagulants and a tumbler will be used to assess the performance of activated carbon. A tumbler will be used to evaluate contaminant sorption and desorption. 30%
  • Water Quality Analysis Several different water quality analyses will be performed including total organic carbon analysis, UV spectroscopy, fluorescence, GC-MS, and LC-MS.
