The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire a student assistant, in a learning capacity, to work under the close supervision of an Environmental Planner. The student assistant, in a learning capacity, will contribute as a team member on various staff development projects. They will actively participate in assisting staff with the logistics involved in the preparation of training for environmental staff and managers statewide. Responsibilities include collecting and compiling information for environmental training, and presentations, as well as coordinating attendance. The student assistant, in a learning capacity, will also record and summarize meeting minutes and actions, proactively addressing follow-up requests. Additional duties involve assisting with data analysis, preparing visual displays, supporting staff in documenting program elements, providing editing assistance, and maintaining program web content. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. 62 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Preferred Qualifications Under the amendment to Government Code Section 18220, state agencies shall give preference to a qualified applicant (up to 26 years of age) who is, or has been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, a formerly incarcerated youth, or a victim of human trafficking. Duties and Responsibilities Contribute as a team member to assist with staff development training preparation, participate in meetings, assist with coordinating activities. Collect and compile information required for meeting agendas, reports, and presentations and assist with drafting these types of documents. Record and summarize minutes and actions for distribution. Assist with specific follow-up requests that arise from meetings. Participate in environmental studies and data collection. Maintain comprehensive project databases and documentation. Assist with organizing class materials, including coordinating attendance, and reserve training venues. Prepare tables, charts, diagrams, and maps to display information for correspondence, written reports and presentations. Assist with editing documents, letters, and other materials. Assist with maintaining content on program webpages. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.
