23-Sep-2026 Job Summary The School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the History of Education . The successful candidate will help students critically examine the political, social, economic, and organizational forces that have shaped education policy and practice. This position will enhance the School's interdisciplinary strengths by bringing historical perspectives to contemporary issues in education, including in areas such as educational policy, higher education, and education law. We particularly encourage scholars to apply whose work focuses on educational equity and/or intersectional struggles for justice. The faculty member will play an important role in the School's Education Foundations, Policy, and Practice (EFPP) graduate program area. This program area brings together foundational disciplines—including history, philosophy, sociology, anthropology and law—as well as critical perspectives from curriculum theory and gender studies, to explore the social, political and economic forces that structure educational aims, institutions and practices. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of education and related areas of education policy and practice. They will strengthen doctoral training, support students undertaking historical research, and expand course offerings in the history of education. Through research, teaching, mentoring, and service, this position will advance scholarship that draws on historical understandings of education to inform more educational policies and practices that are just, inclusive and effective. Conducting historical research that contributes to contemporary understandings of education policy and practice. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of education, educational foundations, and related areas of education policy and practice. Contributing to the development of the School's undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Teaching, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students undertaking historical research and supporting their development as scholars. Contributing historical perspectives to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and program development across the School and university. Drawing on historical scholarship to inform curricula, policies, and practices that promote more equitable, just, and democratic educational outcomes. Providing intellectual leadership and outreach to campus partners, schools, communities, professional organizations, and the broader field. Contributing service to the program, School, university, profession, and broader community. What You Should Know This role is located in Boulder, CO. The workload for this role is 40% research/scholarly work, 40% teaching, advising & mentoring, and 20% service. Tenure track faculty are expected to teach four courses per academic year, and all courses are typically taught in person on campus. D.) in the history of education, educational foundations, education, history, education policy, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. A record of scholarly productivity—or demonstrated promise of such—in the history of education. Expertise in the history of education in the United States, including one or more of the following areas: education policy; higher education; education law; education and social movements; the influence of social, political, and cultural contexts on education. Training and experience using historical research methods. Evidence of effective teaching at the university level, at either the undergraduate or graduate level. A record of working successfully with people from a wide range of backgrounds and fostering a strong sense of community and belonging. What We Would Like You to Have A research agenda that examines connections between historical and contemporary issues of educational equity and justice. Expertise in historical questions connected intersectional movements for justice, with an interest in applying this expertise to the history of Colorado and the surrounding region. Experience teaching courses in the history of education, educational foundations, education policy, or related interdisciplinary areas. Experience teaching or mentoring at the doctoral level. Experience advising or supporting graduate students conducting historical research. Demonstrated expertise in historical and archival research methods, as well as other innovative methods for producing and interpreting historical evidence. Potential for interdisciplinary collaboration within the School of Education and across the university.
