Research Assistant/Exercise Physiologist Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center - 3.8 Baltimore, MD Job Details Full-time $57,736 a year 20 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Employee assistance program Qualifications BLS Certification Bachelor's degree Full Job Description This position is located in the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Baltimore and Loch Raven campus of the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS). The position will support GRECC projects in the laboratory of Odessa Addison, DPT, PhD and Elizabeth Dennis, PhD, RD. Drs. Addison and Dennis have multiple projects and programs evaluating the effects of lifestyle interventions such as exercise rehabilitation and nutrition on health, physical function, and quality of life in older Veterans. This position will be an integral part of working with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, exercise physiologists, dieticians, and social workers to assist with these projects and programs. This position will serve as an Exercise Physiologist/Research Assistant. The incumbent will have knowledge of the instruments and techniques of aging-related clinical epidemiologic exercise rehabilitation research and experience in the conduct of human subjects' research. The incumbent may be assigned to multiple research projects as an Exercise Physiologist/Research Assistant. This position is full time for three years. A bachelor's degree, BLS certification, annual flu shot, and US citizenship are required.
Major job responsibilities include:
  • Design and teach multiple group exercise classes per week to Veterans with limited mobility both in-person and virtually, taking into account their chronic diseases and physical abilities
  • Assists with implementation of exercise rehabilitation projects including instructing participants on the proper technique of using exercise equipment
  • Monitor participants during exercise sessions and report participant progress to project coordinator and principle investigator
  • Collect and maintain data collected during physical functional tests, including six minute walk, Short Physical Performance Battery, and hand grip strength. Interpret results and report findings.
  • Maintain program and study data for reports, program effectiveness, case load, and attendance
  • Obtain written informed consent from potential research subjects
  • Assist principle investigator with assessing study participant medical eligibility in accordance with established protocols
  • Assists principle investigator and project coordinator with completion of documentation for applicable Institutional Review Board (IRB) for initial and continuing human subjects' review
  • Perform other duties within the scope of practice of the incumbent and as assigned by the principle investigator.
Phlebotomy certification is desired, but not required.

$57,736.00 per year
