WATER RESOURCES TECHNICIAN II WATER RESOURCES TECHNICIAN II
Public Works Department - Water Resources Up to $2,500 Sign on Bonus available to external candidate About the
Water Resources Department:
The City of Portland's Department of Public works established the Water Resources division to maintain and operate the city's Stormwater, Wastewater Collection, CSO's (Combined Sewer Overflow) and to protect the city's watersheds from environmental and public health concerns. Governed by Federal and State permitting regulations, we are responsible for the City's MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) compliance and NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permits. Water Resources Operations alone consists of staff with an assortment of trade skills including and operations maintains a combined 300+ miles of sewer and stormwater collection systems, several pump stations and stormwater overflow tanks.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position will have and perform a range of different responsibilities and tasks in order to successfully operate and maintain the water resources infrastructure for the City. These individuals will support making operational checks and repairs on pump stations, combined sewer storage systems and process equipment; assist in the sewer and drainage system inspections using a variety of sewer-related equipment.
Requirements:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and other City staff. Ability to meet and converse tactfully with the public. Ability to assist in the maintenance of pumping station equipment and perform pumping station inspections. Ability to work independently and make sound judgments. Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods, materials and skills used in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.
Training and Experience Desired:
Experience and knowledge of operating, maintaining and rehabilitating sewer and drainage systems. Demonstrated experience operating heavy machinery. Construction and/or mechanical experience Familiarity with maintenance management systems and GIS programs preferred High School graduation or GED; or any equivalent combination of experience and training CPR and First Aid certification within first year Completion of OSHA approved confined space training course within first year Completion of OSHA approved work zone safety certification course within first six months.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Shall possess a valid Maine Class B driver's license. We are willing to hire the right applicant with Class C license at Grade 16 and help to obtain Class B license within six (6) months to one (1) year. Must have and maintain good driving record. Ability to pass the New England Collection System II Certification within 24 months. Must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and lift and pass federally mandated drug test if currently hold CDL license. Applications accepted until position is filled. Salary & Benefits:
This is a union position, LABOR & TRADES (Grade 17CDL) - Starting salary range: $26.14/hr. to $28.28/hr., based on qualifications and years of service.
