Water Utility Operator Bend, OR 97702 From $34 an hour - Full-time From $34 an hour - Full-time
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Service Field Technician will perform a variety of functions in the maintenance and repair of Roats Water System's distribution system to ensure the safety and quality of the domestic and irrigation water supplies. Reports directly to the field manager. This position is intended for a person who would like to pursue training for a long-term and stable career in water system operations and management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in the utility field operations and team, including strategic direction and goals, operational execution and program development for maintaining and repairing in-ground and above ground infrastructure. Conducts inspections of the water system and related equipment including pumps and water tank; monitors water tank levels, water quality, and functioning of equipment; Locates and repairs leaks in water main and/or service lines. Must already be certified or be willing to be as a trained Certified Backflow Tester in State of Oregon. Job position will be responsible for testing backflow prevention devices within the system. Distribute shut-off notice and turn on/off water meters. Assists in repairing and maintaining fire hydrants, meter boxes and valves. Performs service order work including turning on new service, disconnecting service for repairs, and changing out meters. Maintenance of all facilities and company properties. Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct tailgate trainings Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team Coordinates and responds to emergency utility situations, after-hours calls, or special requests as needed. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Oregon State Driver's License is required. Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and may be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, high voltage electrical currents, high pressure water lines, confined spaces, fumes, and hazardous materials/chemicals.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate heavy equipment, hand tools and small power equipment, performs light to heavy manual labor, climbs ladders, and lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of water systems operations and maintenance; regulatory requirements governing water production and distribution; water sampling techniques and procedures; equipment and tools relative to water systems maintenance; recordkeeping and reporting requirements. State of Oregon Water Distribution II certification. State of Oregon Cross Connection Specialist. Commercial Drivers License.
Skilled in:
Operating, repairing, and maintaining water systems equipment; assisting in ensuring the safety and quality of the company's water supply; repairing water leaks; reading water meters and assisting customers; maintaining accurate departmental records, reports, and documentation.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary:
Starting at $34/hr. Competitive depending on experience
