Facility:
Gulf Breeze Zoo The Gulf Breeze Zoo is a 50-acre facility, located just east of Pensacola, Florida. This ZAA-Accredited facility is home to a diverse collection of animals, with the collection consisting of breeding Nile hippos, white rhinos, giraffe and various hoofed stock species, as well as gorillas, orangutans, myriad species of smaller primates, large cats and bears, a petting area, and a wide assortment of birds and reptiles.
Job Description:
Bird/Reptile Assistant Curator We are looking for an experienced Bird and Reptile Assistant Curator. This hire is for oversight of a remarkably diverse bird and reptile collection. Record-keeping and collection management will be of paramount importance. An understanding of nutrition, breeding habits, proper display techniques, and an eye for animal health and well-being is imperative. Production is very important to our viable breeding animals, such as various hornbill species, Galapagos tortoises, macaws, king vultures, as well many other species of birds and tortoises. The position is physically demanding and active. This role is a working position, while there will be office time allotted. Applicants must have significant hands-on animal experience, including proven management experience. Must be professional, in both demeanor and appearance. Non-smoking work environment. Requirements
  • 5+ years of paid experience in a zoological park or breeding center with at least 2 years with ever-increasing responsibilities in a lead/management position.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with hand raising various bird species.
  • Record-keeping, collection management experience.
  • BS in the animal related sciences preferred.
