Job Description

Job Overview Join our team as a Seasonal Locomotive Engineer from May-October and become a vital part of our transportation operations! In this energetic role, you will operate and control Coal fired steam locomotives while giving a guided tour to throughout the day. Your expertise will ensure smooth, reliable service while maintaining the highest safety standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for heavy equipment operation, mechanical systems, and a commitment to safety excellence. Responsibilities Safely operate steam locomotives along designated routes, adhering to all safety protocols and operational procedures. Keep Locomotive clean while operating throughout the day Monitor train signals, switches, and track conditions to maintain smooth transit and prevent delays or accidents. Communicate effectively with Conductor, crew members, and your management team to coordinate movements and address operational issues promptly. Manage emergency situations by following established protocols, including brake failures or track obstructions, ensuring safety for all personnel. You will give a History tour each trip to all riders with a scripted speech. Assist with maintaining the grounds buildings and Railcars as may be necessary. Demonstrate proficiency in operating heavy equipment and understanding mechanical systems to troubleshoot minor issues when necessary. Follow all CCVNGRR safety, General rules and procedures necessary to perform the job. Skills Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting on locomotive systems. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, CCV employees. Experience operating heavy equipment or machinery in a demanding environment. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Excellent communication skills for clear coordination with team members and emergency responders. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50lbs on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. While working this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather connditions. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
