Job Description

Successful candidates must be available to begin work in mid-June & be able work the entire duration of the program through mid-August (approximately 10-weeks). The position has a variable hour work schedule, up to 25 hours per week. Under the general direction of the Seasonal Playground Program Lead, this position is responsible for assisting in a traveling summer playground program at various park sites; must be able to work as a team with other assigned staff and also independently with little supervision. Will perform and oversee the daily operations and activities, which include leading organized games, arts & crafts, and special events. Develops positive, supportive relationships with participants, parents, the public and other department staff. Conducts oneself in a professional manner that represents the City well; be involved and engaged in program & activities with the participants; use promotional materials that promote the program and activities; responsible and tracking of equipment and supplies. Set-up and tear down of program equipment and supplies. Ability to lead programs and activities. Prepare information and promotional materials that promote the program and activities. Work with youth between ages of 4-12 in a positive manner. Interact professionally with participants and other employees. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. Responsible for inventory and tracking of equipment and supplies. Maintaining records and preparing reports. Follow/adhere to all city policies and procedures, and safety program regulations and requirements. Timely and regular attendance. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Ability to:

Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments. Plan, implement, and evaluate programs as well as adapt to playground conditions and participants. Operate computer software programs effectively Physically set up and tear-down program equipment Represent the City in a positive and professional manner; use good judgment and be a good role model for youth. Perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One-year of college course work in recreation, education or related field preferred.
  • One-year experience working with youth and leading youth activities and programs preferred.
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days after hire.
  • Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to, reference checks and a criminal background check.
Note:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job will be considered. Work is primarily performed outside in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Must be able to lift/carry at least 40lbs. May be required to stand for extended periods of time. Work involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, kneeling , pushing, and pulling. The work frequently requires speaking or hearing, using hands to handle or feel items and repetitive motions.
