The Security Officer position is responsible for ensuring the safety of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina's employees, volunteers, visitors, and security in the Wilmington location. The schedule is Tuesday
- Saturday, 8:30 am
- 5:00pm.
Primary Responsibilities:
(80%) Security Operations & Facility Monitoring Conduct regular and random patrols of the facility, warehouse, parking areas, and perimeter to identify safety or security concerns and deter unauthorized activity. Maintain constant awareness of surroundings and demonstrate a visible, professional presence to promote safety and discourage potential security risks. Monitor access points and verify identification of individuals entering or exiting the premises in accordance with Food Bank protocols. Monitor security cameras and alarm systems (if applicable) and promptly report irregularities, malfunctions, or suspicious activity. Respond calmly and effectively to incidents, emergencies, or other critical situations using sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Communicate and cooperate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and Food Bank leadership as needed, following established procedures. Protect organizational assets by monitoring and reporting potential theft, loss, or misuse of Food Bank property or resources. Complete accurate and detailed reports regarding daily activities, incidents, observations, and safety concerns. Control vehicle traffic and parking during busy periods, deliveries, or volunteer events to maintain safe and efficient operations. Support a safe workplace by identifying and reporting safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or unsafe behaviors to appropriate staff or supervisors. (20%) Safety Support, Customer Service & Team Collaboration Assist in emergency preparedness and response efforts, including fire drills, evacuations, severe weather procedures, and first aid/CPR support. Provide guidance, assistance, and professional customer service to visitors, volunteers, clients, and staff while ensuring compliance with site policies. Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to maintain a secure, respectful, and welcoming environment. Support organizational operations and special events as needed. 5+ years relevant experience required with demonstrated experience working with employees and volunteers in facility, operational, or event environments required.Skills and Competencies:
Communication & Interpersonal Skills- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and support positive working relationships. Operational Knowledge

Certifications & Compliance Requirements:
Must have a clean criminal background and driving history. Must be able to pass a drug screening. Must be able to pass basic math testing and complete food safety training. Possess basic life safety and emergency response skills, including CPR, AED, and first aid.Physical Demands:
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Talk, hear, and interact without deliberate impediment (e.g., wearing or listening to headphones, etc.); Sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel. Lift and carry loads of up to 60 pounds for short distances (less than 50 feet) To reach for and/or lift upward with their arms and hands to heights of 6 feet or greater. To twist their body right or left, often repeatedly. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, and to stoop, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions.Work Environment:
General warehouse, outdoor, truck, and office environments, including refrigerator, produce cooler, and freezer. The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, powered equipment, and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee will be exposed to temperatures ranging from- 10 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
