Semi-Trailer Mechanic/Fabricator

Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Semi-Trailer Technician to join our team. This role involves shortening trailers, installing liftgates, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining semi-trailers and liftgates to ensure safety, reliability, and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, experience with heavy machinery, and the ability to work efficiently. Prior shop experience and familiarity with various types of industrial equipment are highly desirable. Responsibilities Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on semi-trailers, including air brake systems, suspensions, liftgates, hydraulics, and electrical components. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and heavy machinery such as forklifts and scissor lifts. Fabricate parts or components as needed for repairs or modifications Assist in the assembly and disassembly of trailer components during repairs or upgrades Perform heavy lifting tasks safely while adhering to OSHA guidelines Skills Proven experience with heavy equipment operation forklifts and tractor-trailers Strong mechanical knowledge with expertise in air brakes, suspension systems, hydraulics. Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex issues Skilled in welding and oxy/acetylene torch work with mild steel, Stainless steel, and aluminum. Experience with welding and fabrication techniques for custom repairs or modifications Excellent problem-solving skills combined with customer service awareness Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during repair tasks Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members This position requires a dedicated individual committed to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
