Job Title:
Senior Accountant Job Description This Senior Accountant position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of client engagements, including tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services within a growing public accounting firm. You will join a supportive team that values strong client relationships, high-quality work, and professional development. Responsibilities Assist in preparing individual and business income tax returns under the supervision of certified public accountants. Work directly with CPAs on a variety of client engagements, including bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services. Provide bookkeeping and accounting services for small businesses using QuickBooks or client-provided accounting software. Process payroll for clients and assist with payroll tax filings to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Manage deadlines related to income tax, payroll, and sales tax filings, ensuring all submissions are timely and accurate. Communicate regularly with team members and clients to gather required information and clarify outstanding items. Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date client records and documentation. Support the delivery of personalized service to small business and individual clients across the firm's service areas. Contribute to building and maintaining strong client relationships by providing responsive, reliable, and professional service. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience. Basic understanding of tax concepts and accounting principles. Experience or familiarity with income tax preparation, including individual and business tax returns. Knowledge of payroll processes and payroll tax requirements. Understanding of general ledger accounting and core accounting functions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple client deadlines. Detail-oriented approach with a strong commitment to accuracy and high-quality work. Ability to collaborate with CPAs and team members on various client engagements. Comfort working with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar client-provided systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior internship or professional experience in tax or accounting is preferred but not required. CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is not required for this role. Demonstrated leadership potential in academic, professional, or community settings. Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and reliable follow-through. Eagerness to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility within a public accounting environment. Interest in working with small businesses and individual clients across a variety of industries. Motivation to develop professionally as the firm grows and expands to additional locations. Work Environment The firm is a growing accounting practice serving approximately 400-500 business and individual clients, primarily across Iowa, with a focus on the Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and surrounding areas. The core services include tax preparation, payroll, bookkeeping, and consulting, with an emphasis on personalized service for small businesses and individuals. The in-office team consists of about 10 people, with an additional 5-7 seasonal team members joining during the approximately 4.5-month busy season. The culture emphasizes support, collaboration, and meaningful client relationships rather than a strict focus on billable hours. Team members make time for one another, work closely with clients, and are encouraged to grow their skills and advance within the firm. The office is based in Coralville, with clients primarily located in nearby communities, and the firm is considering expansion to a second location. Work involves domestic clients only, with no responsibilities related to foreign accounts or clients. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Coralville, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $63000.00/yr.Benefits:
