Job DescriptionJob Description Heritage CPAs is a well-established boutique accounting, tax, and advisory firm based in Hauppauge, New York. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is looking for broad client exposure, meaningful responsibility, and long-term growth within a collaborative and high-performing firm. Position Overview The Senior Accountant will work closely with firm leadership, staff, and clients across a variety of accounting, reporting, and tax-related matters. You will play a key role in client service delivery, staff development, and the continued growth of the firm. Key Responsibilities Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes for client engagements Review reconciliations, journal entries, account analyses, and supporting schedules prepared by Staff Accountants Analyze financial statements, identify trends and variances, and communicate meaningful insights to clients and firm leadership Support business clients with budgeting, forecasting, and practical financial recommendations to help guide decision-making Help improve reporting accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across client engagements Assist with the preparation and review of business income tax returns for S corporations, partnerships, and other closely held entities Prepare year-end workpapers, adjusting entries, and supporting schedules for business tax engagements Analyze general ledger activity and financial statements for tax reporting, including identification of book-to-tax differences Review payroll tax, sales tax, and other recurring compliance filings Work with leadership and clients to resolve tax notices, respond to information requests, and address business tax compliance matters Mentor Staff Accountants and Interns by supporting technical development, accountability, and day-to-day growth Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Finance considered with relevant public accounting experience CPA or progress toward CPA preferred 5+ years of public accounting experience required Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and client service Ability to analyze financial information and provide thoughtful, practical recommendations Proficiency in QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, and Microsoft Excel required Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines High level of accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and internal team member Why Join Heritage CPAs The opportunity to join a respected, growth-oriented firm with a long-standing reputation for quality and service Direct exposure to a diverse client base, including closely held businesses and individuals with complex tax and financial needs Meaningful leadership responsibility and regular access to firm leadership A professional, collaborative environment where team members are supported in both technical and professional growth A long-term career opportunity with room to expand your role and responsibilities over time Competitive compensation and performance bonus opportunity Comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) with employer match, health, dental, vision, life insurance, HSA, and paid time off Summer Fridays, with the office closed every Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day Seasonal Workload Expectations We believe in being transparent about the rhythm of public accounting while also offering meaningful flexibility during non-peak periods.
