PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Accounting Specialist plays a critical role in the Finance department by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of accounting and financial reporting. This position supports day‑to‑day accounting operations, which includes accounts payable and cash management; general ledger activities, journal entries, reconciliations and monthly accounting schedules.
KEY OUTPUTS/DELIVERABLES
Performs reconciliations and analysis of accounting and financial data to ensure transactions are recorded in a timely / accurate manner and in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), governmental requirements and company policies. Assist with month end and year end accounting processes.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Record invoices and process payments for assigned vendors to ensure timely payments for: prepaid freight, per diem, petty cash and expense reimbursements and urgent payments. Coordinate approval process for payment batches. Assist with investigating and addressing queries escalated to Financial Accounting Manager. Maintain check register, stop payment file and payment records for document retention. Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor Prepare daily cash flow and manage inter-bank wire transfers.
Assist with daily monitoring of:
(1) line of credit balances to ensure timely repayment, (2) intercompany payments and (3) excess cash investments. Prepare a monthly Line of Credit roll forward schedule and an intercompany deposit schedule for GK Corporate. Maintain Credit Card Expense records and track submissions of reports to ensure timely accounting entries each monthly Reconcile accrued clearance charges with vendor statements and ensure review and approval by the 20th day of each month. Prepare monthly analysis of major expense accounts assigned, due for review and approval the 20th of each month. Perform reconciliations and analysis of assigned general ledger accounts. Create leases and maintain support in Lease Query in compliance with the applicable GAAP and IFRS standards. Prepare and book monthly standard journals extracted from Lease Query to SAP. File and archive accounting records and supporting documentation. Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Efficiently execute day-to-day activities and complete other assignments as specified. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as directed by the Manager. Apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in accounting effectively. Analyze accounting and financial data to prepare accurate reports. Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. ather and analyze information skillfully to inform decisions. Prioritize and plan work activities effectively, use time efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A
Bachelor's degree in business/Accounting or related field; or equivalent combination of experience/education, 1 - 3 Years of accounting experience. Or Associate's degree plus 3 years or more experience in accounting or related field. Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe products and e-mail required.
KEY COMPETENCES
Computer Skills:
must have working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products to facilitate data analysis and reconciliation of accounts and report preparation. SAP knowledge an asset.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently.
