Senior Electrical Engineer (Control) Req #5356 JTEKT North America, 47771 Halyard Drive, Plymouth, Michigan, United States of America Apply Share Job Description Posted Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM Summary In this role, you will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager and serve as a technical leader for control system development on electromechanical chassis products, including steering and driveline applications. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in control systems engineering and project management, and can apply that knowledge across the full product development lifecycle. You will also coordinate cross-functional activities, manage technical execution against program targets, and support new business pursuit activities through technical reviews, requirement analysis, and customer-facing engineering support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional development activities for control system programs, aligning technical deliverables, priorities, and timing with customer expectations and internal milestones.
- Support new business pursuit and RFQ activities by leading technical reviews, evaluating control system requirements, developing compliance matrices, estimating engineering scope, and contributing to customer proposals.
- Lead system-level development of safety-critical control systems for chassis applications, including control architecture definition, closed-loop strategy development, and compliance with ASPICE and internal development processes.
- Own control system requirements, dynamic models, and architecture design, ensuring full traceability throughout development.
- Develop and refine control algorithms including signal processing, close-loop controller design and compensation, plant modeling, stability analysis, and performance optimization.
- Define verification strategies and test procedures for control system requirements, including model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, production, and vehicle-level validation of closed-loop performance.
- Lead HIL bench actuator controller development and improvement
- Develop control-oriented interfaces and test tool capabilities in embedded environments, including CAN-based measurement, calibration, tuning, debugging, and customer demonstration support using tools such as CANape and CANalyzer.
- Analyze, tune, and debug control algorithms, embedded software, and electrical hardware in simulation, laboratory, production line, and vehicle environments.
- Support the launch of new products into production as well as products already in production.
- Facilitate communication and strategic coordination between the plant and TC, including support for troubleshooting, process improvement, technical reviews, etc.
- Work daily overtime and Saturdays and/or Sundays when directed by immediate supervisor or, as necessary, to complete essential job duties
- Develop and maintain a responsive and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers. Treat everyone with dignity, trust and respect. Supervisory Responsibilities

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge, understanding with design, evaluation and integration of vehicle control systems and/or vehicle sub systems, diagnostics, control modules/software, and electrical systems
- Must have a good understanding of classic and modern control theory, feedback control, compensations (lead/lag, notch, observer, etc.), stability analysis and design.
- Working knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering, process, and toolchain
- Working knowledge of Matlab / Simulink, CAN communication tools (ie Vector CANape/CANoe/CANalyzer), and/or other tools and processes related to automotive product development
- Working knowledge of ASPICE processes development and implementation is preferred.
Problem Solving & Analysis:
Able to gather appropriate, often complex, data and diagnose the cause of a problem before taking action; separate causes from symptoms; apply lessons learned from others who encountered similar problems or challenges; anticipate problems and develop contingency plans to deal with them; develop and evaluate alternative courses of action- Self-starter with good verbal and written technical communication skills both written & oral
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required. MS Preferred
- At least 6 years of related automotive experience with chassis electronic components required
- Experience with control algorithms development is a must
- Experience with engineering project management is a must
- Experience with toolchains including ALM, requirement and traceability management tools, system architecture tools, test tools, etc. is a must
- Experience with FMEA, FTA and structured problem solving techniques (8D, 5Y…)
- Experience with vehicle dynamics and vehicle model correlation is preferred
- Experience with generative AI, machine learning, and data analysis and their toolchains is a plus
- Familiarity with environmental, mechanical, and electrical verification testing methodologies in an automotive or environment
- Experience with safety critical electric system (Steering, Brakes, powertrain…) development in compliance with
ISO26262
is preferredWork Environment:
- Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer.
- The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
- Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5-10% of time.
