View More Jobs Senior Laboratory Technician Northbrook, IL, United States Be the First to Apply Responsibilities Examines test samples and reads measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions. Evaluates test performance, provides feedback regarding issues and/or problems with test and data sheets and reviews test and construction data with supervisor and/or lab work requestor as appropriate. Operates with minimal supervision within defined limits of responsibility. Directs, builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from engineering department personnel. Trains staff in test setups and test methods. Initiates recommendations for new equipment designs and recommends solutions to observed test problems. Operates designated machines and special laboratory equipment. Performs routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area. Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory personnel. Communicates with clients during the setup and performance of a test to demonstrate or otherwise illustrate equipment test methods and/or to discuss test results. May communicate with UL field representatives to discuss follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods and/or results. Communicates with the appropriate department personnel to offer suggestions pertinent to equipment needs. Records observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepare data sheets and test reports. Plans tests, evaluates test results and reports opinions and interpretations. May assist PDEs and/or Engineering to modify existing methods or develop and validate new test methods. Provides training and assist others in the laboratory. Reads and understands test standards and testing technology for specific tests. Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices. Performs other duties as directed. #LI-NM1 #LI-Onsite Qualifications 2 years University education in a related discipline or Engineering (in related field of work) or 4-year University degree in other field. Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers. Proven ability to be innovative and creative. Desire to work in a team-oriented environment. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must. Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
Total Rewards:
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $54,600 to $72,800 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
