Job Description

The senior ophthalmic technician is responsible for performing various diagnostic tests and procedures to assist ophthalmologists in evaluating and treating patients with eye conditions. They play a key role in patient care by conducting preliminary examinations, obtaining medical histories, and providing support during procedures. Key responsibilities
  • Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, pupil evaluations, and intraocular pressure measurements.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fundus photography.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during exams and procedures, including scribing, preparing surgical instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and providing technical support.
  • Educate patients on eye care procedures, treatment plans, and post-op care.
  • Administer eye medications as directed by healthcare providers and provide instructions for their use.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, test results, and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with other members of the eye care team, including MDs, other technicians, and administrative staff, to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care delivery.
  • Assist with patient-related administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, Rx refills, billing, routine paperwork and training.
  • Assist with clinic-related administrative tasks such as clinic supplies and inventory management and help maintain and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment.
  • Escalate issues to Clinic Manager, Office Manager, Practice Manager and MDs as needed Model and promote Aurora Eye Clinic's values o Promote a patient-centric culture o Encourage collaboration and teamwork among MDs, clinic and office staff o Pursue excellence by identifying opportunities to improve patient experience and make AEC a better place to work o Act with integrity and comply with HIPPA, OSHA and other national and local regulations Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is highly desirable.
  • >5 years experience working as an ophthalmic technician
  • Proficiency in performing diagnostic tests and procedures, such as visual field testing, OCT, and tonometry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record and maintain patient information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, eye anatomy, and common eye conditions and diseases.
  • Proficiency in using ophthalmic equipment and computer software for patient management and documentation.
