OUR CHURCH
Since 1900, Anchor of Hope Church has been reaching our community with the love of Jesus. We are a Gospel-centered church that is committed to loving the lost into the family of God. We want to be a help and a resource to the broken and hurting in our community. Because of this we follow the example of Jesus by building relationships and bringing the Good News everywhere we go. We are a small congregation of 25-35. Florence is a retirement town, and the congregation reflects that demographic. What makes this church unique is the people who love Jesus and love one another. We value commitment to the Scripture, and the fellowship that we have in Christ. Our building was built in 1950, located in the heart of the city half a block from the Pacific Coast Highway. The building could use a few improvements but has served us well. There are chair lifts for the stairs to accommodate the older population in the community, and adequate classroom and fellowship space.OUR COMMUNITY
Nestled along the scenic Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, Florence is a picturesque coastal community known for its natural beauty, welcoming spirit, and relaxed pace of life. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, forests, and the popular Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, the area offers abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, fishing, dune riding, and beachcombing. With a population of around 9,000 residents, Florence maintains a small-town feel where relationships matter, and community connections run deep. Many residents are retirees, contributing to a strong sense of stability and volunteerism, while families and working professionals create a multigenerational community. Florence serves as a regional hub along Highway 101, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Tourism plays a significant role in the local economy, alongside healthcare, retail, and small business, creating both ministry opportunities and a steady flow of new faces. The city offers a unique blend of coastal charm and everyday convenience, with local shops, schools, and medical services, while larger cities like Eugene are just over an hour away. Residents enjoy a mild coastal climate, strong community pride, and a lifestyle that values both simplicity and connection.PASTORAL EXPECTATIONS
This is a part-time salaried position. The primary pastoral responsibilities are to follow the biblical definition of a pastor seen in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.Preacher/Teacher:
Providing consistent, biblically faithful preaching and teaching that nurtures spiritual growth.Above Reproach:
Demonstrate Christlike character and integrity in both personal and public life.Servant Leader:
Lead with humility, equipping and guiding the congregation in its mission.Total Church Ministry:
The pastor ensures ministries are caring for the congregation. This includes sacraments, ceremonies, individual interactions, and ministries to the members of the congregation.Organizational Administration:
The pastor is responsible for oversight of administrative functions, ensuring that ministry operations are carried out effectively.Reaching Out:
The pastor is the champion for outreach and evangelism locally and globally as a response to the Great Commission. The previous pastor recently left for another ministry opportunity. The three previous pastors before him stayed at the church until they retired. Ministry in a coastal town is a little different since there is a higher percentage of retirees in town than in other communities. The pastor will have a heart for shepherding a smaller congregation in a smaller town. This calls for a person who is relational and engaged with the community. Since Anchor of Hope Church is part of the Pacific Conference, the expectation is that the pastor will be ordained or will pursue ordination with the Pacific Conference. The hiring process goes through the Conference office, and a yearly performance review is done with the Conference Superintendent and the local church s Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Outside of that review, the pastor is given the responsibility to care for the life and ministry of the congregation.Additional Information:
