Job Description
Definition Currently, the City of Newport Beach is hiring Senior Recreation Leaders in the following areas: Animal Shelter Services, Youth Programs, Aquatics Programs, Facility Set-up and Operations, Sailing and Boating Center Operations (Marina Park), and Senior Program (Oasis Senior Center).
Selection Components:
Application Evaluation- Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review on May 19, 2026. Qualified applicants will be invited to a virtual interview. Virtual Interview - Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future Senior Recreation Leader vacancies as they occur in any of the assigned areas throughout the Recreation & Senior Services Department. Experience & Education and License/Certificate A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Experience:
One year of work or volunteer experience in recreation, childcare, facilities set-up and operations, or related field. When assigned toMarine Education and Conservation :
One year of experience working with the public in an interpretive or educational capacity. Volunteer or work experience with marine conservation, outdoor life, natural history, environmental stewardship, and facilitating large groups is desirable.Education:
Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write at a level required by the job. When Assigned toMarine Education and Conservation :
Some college-level coursework in natural sciences, marine biology, zoology, or related subjects is highly desirable.License/Certificate:
Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required. Red Cross CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.Please Note:
