Job Description
LOCATION
Newington, CT. This role is an in person role. Not hybrid. Not remote.WORK SCHEDULE
Monday - Friday; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm SUMMARYThe senior staff accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. The staff accountant will be assigned one large legal company and several smaller companies that they will be required to perform the month end close, financial reporting, and variance analysis. They are responsible for all accounting and tax functions for all assigned business unit(s) and responsible for daily cash balancing and special projects, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESPerform accounting and tax functions for all assigned companies as follows:Prepare monthly accrual basis financial statements, including all journal entries and related schedulesControl depreciation records using Asset Keeper softwareRecord weekly, quarterly and annual payroll and payroll tax activityPrepare bank reconciliationsMaintain equipment leases and maintenance contractsMaintain daily cash balance reporting and requisitions Prepare outside service and inter-company analysesReview and post AP and billing documentsPrepare work papers for annual external reviewPerform variance analysis for monthly financial narrative Comply with company rules and regulations.
Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
Perform other related duties as assigned to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and companyIdentify process improvements to enhance accuracy and timeliness of reporting EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEAccounting degree or equivalentKnowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principlesKnowledge of auditing practices and principlesKnowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulationsKnowledge and experience with MS Business Central A minimum of 3 years related experience preferably in a manufacturing settingCost accounting experience a plus COMPETENCIESProficient in payables, receivables, invoicing and general ledger.
