Job Description

Shelter Advocate Part-time Saint Marys, GA 31558 From $15 an hour - Part-time From $15 an hour - Part-time Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Part-time Shelter Advocate, where your compassion and proactive approach will make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals experiencing crisis. In this vital role, you will provide supportive services, ensure safety, and assist clients in navigating their pathways to stability. Your energy and commitment will help create a safe, welcoming environment where hope and healing can flourish.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Provide immediate crisis intervention via 24-hour hotline; complete and document all crisis calls Screen all crisis hotlines for safety and approve callers for appropriate services. Offer crisis intervention and emotional support to shelter residents, addressing immediate needs with sensitivity and professionalism Conduct intake assessments to gather essential client information and determine appropriate services Offer emotional support and maintain a trauma-informed approach. Ensure clients understand and comply with shelter rules and guidelines. Supervise daily activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed and maintaining a secure environment for all residents Assist with case management tasks, including data collection, filing, and maintaining accurate records of client interactions Support children by fostering a nurturing environment that promotes their well-being Handle conflict management situations with professionalism, de-escalating tensions and promoting positive resolutions Maintain security by monitoring surveillance systems, conducting regular safety checks, and controlling access to the shelter Facilities Conduct daily maintenance checks and submit completed reports to the Shelter Manager. Ensure the shelter remains clean, orderly, and free of debris. Monitor and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and cleanliness standards. Implement facilities procedures in alignment with Camden House policies and certification standards. ________________________________________
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Maintain up-to-date and accurate records in CaseWorthy for all client-related activities. Complete agency reports, forms, and payroll submissions as directed. Share relevant updates and concerns with the Shelter Manager promptly. Provide transportation to clients when necessary and approved. Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager or Executive Director. ________________________________________
PROHIBITED FUNCTIONS
May not speak to or respond to media inquiries under any circumstances. Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Capable of establishing and maintaining professional boundaries. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Accurate and concise record-keeping with a commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics. Professional demeanor in all interactions with external agencies and clients. Ability to lift 10 lbs. regularly, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Proficiency in using computers and relevant software. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time efficiently. Must pass a criminal background check. Commitment to maintaining the required professional development and training hours. Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong crisis intervention skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure Knowledge of security procedures and first aid certification required or obtainable upon hire Background in survivors of domestic or sexual violence preferred or home & community care is highly desirable Proficiency in data entry, filing, data collection, and case documentation processes Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with clients, team members, and external partners Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries Your dedication as a Shelter Advocate will empower those in need to rebuild their lives with dignity and support.
