Job Description
Position:
Shelter Care Coordinator Monday 7am- 3pm Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 3pm
- 11pm PADS of Elgin is committed to providing safe shelter, support services, and compassionate advocacy to the homeless men, women and children of Dundee, Elgin, and Hanover Townships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
PADS of Elgin is seeking aShelter Site Coordinator:
Ability to work with individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Act as a professional role model at all times while working shelter shift (no personal cell phone usage, proactively and positively interact with guests needing assistance, organize shelter areas while guests are sleeping, etc.). Maintain orderly sleeping environment for guests. Breathalyze any guest arriving to shelter. Occasionally, we have guests that may work a late evening shift and will need to be checked in. May need to dispense morning or evening medications to proper guest and maintain a locked medicine cabinet. Complete morning and evening log (guest attendance & bed count), guest sign-in sheets, incident reports for Case Managers. Holds shelter guests accountable for upholding program rules and expectations. Set up/serve daily meals, maintain supplies for snack bar food/beverages for guests. Assist with laundry for guest bedding in staff quarters. Ensure guests maintain morning schedule (All PADS must be entirely put away no later than 7am weekdays, 9am weekends) Answer incoming shelter phone calls and answer questions in a professional manner. Maintains overall cleanliness and sanitation of the shelter. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries while building rapport. May need to utilize nonviolent crisis intervention methods to de-escalate verbally or physically escalated clients. Training is Available. Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while maintaining a reputation through proven action of being team and guest oriented and willing to assist where/when needed. Ensure the safety of guests, volunteers and staff. Guide and oversee volunteers, help delegate duties Perform security-oriented duties and periodic checks of the facility. Communicates any guest related issues or concerns to Case Managers and/or management. Treat guests in a culturally sensitive manner. Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and professional code of ethics. Performs all duties as assigned including other duties as required.SKILLS NEEDED
Ability to work with individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Basic computer skills. Demonstrates compassion, understanding and commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and core values. Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries in working with guests. Ability to work effectively in a constantly changing and sometimes demanding environment. Ability to work with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical and mental illness. Ability to negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities. Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively. Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout evening shift. Ability to effectively use conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques. Training Available. Ability to communicate well both orally and in written form and follow detailed instructions. Ability to accurately record information for required guest and staff documentation. Ability to apply policies fairly and consistently. Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, sit, stand, bend, reach, and perform cleaning duties.REQUIREMENTS
