Shipping Clerk

Job Title:

Shipping and Receiving Clerk This role oversees the complete shipping and receiving process, ensuring that all incoming and outgoing materials are accurately documented, properly packaged, and delivered on time. You will prepare items for shipment, verify documentation against physical inventory, and handle materials throughout the facility using various tools and equipment. Responsibilities Receive incoming shipments and maintain accurate records of materials received. Prepare items for shipment by assembling, addressing, stamping, and packaging merchandise or materials. Compare identifying information, counts, weights, and other measurements of outgoing shipments to verify quantities against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determine appropriate shipping methods, routes, and rates for materials to be shipped, including foreign orders. Generate shipping labels and calculate shipping rates for domestic and international shipments. Calculate, pack, and weigh orders to ensure accuracy and compliance with shipping requirements. Deliver or route materials to internal departments using hand trucks, conveyors, or sorting bins. Load prepared shipments onto carriers in a safe and efficient manner. Pack, seal, and label packages, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, or postage meters. Select the most suitable method of shipping by applying knowledge of shipping procedures and requirements. Maintain organized shipping and receiving records to support tracking and auditing of materials. Essential Skills Proven experience in shipping and receiving operations. Hands-on experience with packaging, packing, and picking orders. Material handling skills, including safely moving and routing materials within a facility. Ability to accurately maintain inventory records and track incoming and outgoing shipments. Capability to compare counts, weights, and measurements to verify shipment accuracy. Competence in determining shipping methods, routes, and rates, including for foreign orders. Ability to generate shipping labels and calculate shipping rates. Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and postage meters to pack and prepare shipments. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and recordkeeping. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using hand trucks, conveyors, or sorting bins to move materials. Familiarity with bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple shipments and deadlines. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site role with hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, employees work 6 hours and 45 minutes, ending the day at 3:45 p.m. Temporary employees follow the same daily schedule and end their day at 3:45 p.m. The role involves working in a shipping and receiving area, handling materials and packages, and using equipment such as hand trucks, conveyors, sorting bins, hand tools, power tools, and postage meters. The environment is active and hands-on, requiring regular movement, lifting, and coordination with other departments to ensure efficient material flow. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boonton, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
