Job Description

Nordex, Inc. is an engineering-driven company with major operations in gear manufacturing, CNC machining, and assemblies for the medical device, robotics, automation, aerospace, and defense industries. We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Shop Supervisor to lead daily manufacturing operations within our machine shop environment. The Shop Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing daily machining operations while actively supporting production activities on the shop floor. This position requires a strong technical machining background combined with proven leadership abilities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience setting up and operating CNC and manual machine tools, supervising machinists and shop personnel, maintaining production schedules, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. This role will work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to support continuous improvement initiatives, optimize machining processes, and maintain efficient workflow throughout the manufacturing operation. Responsibilities Supervise daily operations of the machine shop, including machinists and other shop personnel. Set up and operate CNC and manual machine centers, mills, and lathes as production requirements dictate. Assist machinists with machine setup, troubleshooting, tooling selection, and machining processes. Monitor production schedules and workflow to ensure on-time delivery and efficient utilization of equipment and personnel. Work closely with Engineering to develop and machine tight-tolerance tooling and components. Ensure parts and assemblies conform to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. Utilize precision measuring instruments to perform dimensional verification of work. Promote and enforce safe work practices and maintain a clean, organized shop environment. Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel to support skill development and performance improvement. Coordinate with Quality personnel to resolve manufacturing and inspection issues. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining efficiency, quality, and workflow. Assist with production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation as needed. Participate in corrective and preventative actions related to manufacturing processes and quality issues. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC and manual machine centers, mills, and lathes in a tight-tolerance manufacturing environment. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing or machining environment. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and inspection techniques. Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gages, plug and ring gages, and other inspection tools. Knowledge of conversational programming and G-code. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to machining operations and production processes. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Working knowledge of manufacturing quality standards and documentation practices. Experience collaborating with Engineering and Quality departments in a production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, or other high-precision manufacturing industries. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems. Experience in gear manufacturing, including utilizing gear hobbers and shapers. Requirements All persons hired must be a U.S. Person in accordance with ITAR (22 CFR Part 120-130)

$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
