Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter and American Sign Language (ASL) professional! Schools in the welcoming communities surrounding Somerset, Danville, and Berea—about an hour south of Lexington—are seeking dedicated interpreters to enhance communication access and promote student success. Your expertise in ASL and school-based interpreting will make a meaningful impact within educational settings. Take advantage of our out-of-state guidance as you transition into this role. Candidates holding a 4.0 EIPA score or NIC certification, and interested in obtaining Kentucky licensure, are highly encouraged to apply. What you'll bring: Proficiency in American Sign Language Prior experience as a school-based Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Teacher Valid EIPA 4.0 or higher, or NIC certification (or the ability and willingness to become Kentucky-licensed) Adaptability to work with students of various ages and abilities Professionalism, strong ethics, and a passion for supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students Collaborative spirit to partner with educators and other school staff Key responsibilities: Interpret classroom lessons, school events, and meetings to support communication for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students Facilitate interactions between students, staff, and peers Maintain confidentiality and adhere to interpreting standards Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to student planning as needed Foster a respectful, inclusive environment that encourages student engagement and independence You'll enjoy: A contract position offering stability through the school year Support and guidance throughout the credentialing process, including for out-of-state applicants The chance to work in welcoming Kentucky communities rich with culture and scenic charm Opportunities to expand your professional network and make a difference in students' lives If you're ready to empower young learners and share your sign language expertise, we want to hear from you!
