MISSION STATEMENT
To be the nation's most citizen oriented, efficiently administered, state tax agency. The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, alcoholic beverage laws, cannabis laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Director's Office Division provides support for the Director and department employees relating to tax policy, legal, human resources, training, enterprise planning, communications and taxpayer assistance, dispute resolution, call center, accounting and budgeting, contracts, facilities and purchasing, and security. DUTIES Job Overview:
The incumbent performs a variety of duties assigned by management. Duties include comprehensive analyses of problems related to all aspects of established and emerging tax and related economic policy issues such as individual and corporate income taxes, general and selective sales and use taxes, natural resource taxes, property taxes, and other miscellaneous taxes. Develops and manages research, analysis, and information dissemination projects to provide revenue estimation, tax policy analysis, economic research, and analysis, and to prepare departmental reports. The incumbent also participates in the design, implementation, monitoring, and revision of statistical models and databases used in analysis of current and emerging tax policy issues at the federal, state, and local government levels and uses the models to determine impacts on relevant groups of taxpayers and state and local government tax revenues. The position does not supervise other staff.

REMOTE/TELEWORK
This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite; however, the successful candidate must be a primary resident of Montana as a condition of employment. This position would be required to report to the Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program. Full-time teleworking is not available.
Training Assignment:
This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire. Working Conditions Work hours may exceed 40 hours from time to time, including weekends. Office environment. Lifting is infrequent, less than 15 pounds. Some travel may be required, must have a valid driver's license. Successful applicants are required to successfully pass DOR tax and background check(s).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The minimum level needed on the first day of work is Master's degree in economics, mathematics, finance, business administration, statistics, or closely related field and three years of job-related work experience. Work experience should be in analytical research and writing research reports Preferred work experience includes tax issues. An IAAO certification on hire preferred; must complete IAAO course work within 3 years of hire. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
