Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) About the role Help protect kids and families across Marion County by identifying and reducing lead-based paint hazards. As a Lead Poisoning Risk Assessor, you'll conduct lead inspections and risk assessments in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, produce clear written reports, guide corrective actions, and support clearance exams to ensure homes are safe—especially in cases involving lead-poisoned children. You'll partner closely with MCPHD staff and community stakeholders to coordinate services and strengthen public health outcomes. What you'll do Conduct lead inspections & risk assessments on pre-1978 homes and referred properties, including child-occupied facilities. Interpret and enforce public safety codes related to housing, sanitation, and unsafe buildings. Document findings and issue violations with recommended corrective actions when hazards are identified. Prepare detailed written reports and distribute to responsible parties in a timely manner. Support remediation follow-up by monitoring work completed and conducting clearance examinations. Complete Healthy Homes screenings at inspection sites and route screens to the Healthy Homes Specialist. Maintain accurate documentation in required databases within prescribed timeframes. Serve as a professional witness by gathering evidence and participating in judicial settings as needed. Engage the community by attending neighborhood meetings and preparing meeting-ready reports. Collaborate across agencies with other health departments and government partners in a teamwork mindset. Comply with HIPAA and maintain working knowledge of MCPHD services/programs to share with the community. Support emergency preparedness/response as directed, including exercises and real events.

Participate in outreach:

minimum two H.O.P.E. events totaling 8 hours annually. Perform other duties as assigned. What you'll bring

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Public Health or a related field (required).

Licensure:

Valid Indiana Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Driving requirements:

Valid Indiana driver's license, good driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation for work purposes.

Communication:

Strong verbal and written skills; able to explain findings clearly to residents, contractors, and stakeholders.

Tech skills:

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based systems.

Work style:

Self-starter who can work independently, stay organized, and shift priorities as needed.

Coordination:

Effective collaborator with internal teams and external partners; able to meet strict deadlines. Nice to have Experience in housing/environmental health inspections, code enforcement, or healthy homes initiatives.
