Job Description

The Business Office at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Budget Analyst position. Assist with the preparation, consolidation, and distribution of the annual budget documents Prepare and analyze reports of operating revenues and expenditures for university departments and divisions as well as external entities. Review and approve personnel forms, budget adjustments, and other transactions as needed for the operations of the university. Utilize available software applications to develop and maintain budget reports and analyses to identify variances as well as compile and update statistical data. Communicate effectively both orally and written using email, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. Interpret the fiscal evaluation of proposed legislation and its relationship to the University's forecast of revenues and expenditures. Counsel departments on preparing budgets based on actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports and other factors. Research and analyze factors and trends applicable to higher education that impact the university's budgets. Assist the Executive Director in developing long-range revenue and expenditure forecasts models. Recommend and implement university budget policies and procedures. Assist with training of department and division budget liaisons. Maintain confidentiality of employee records and data. Perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor's Degree, required, from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field. Have at least three (3) years of budget experience preferably in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Demonstrate proficient use of integrated database systems, Banner Finance and Human Resource Modules, preferred Must be proficient with the use of word processing and spreadsheet software applications, presentation software, and knowledge of the use of database applications i.e., Microsoft Access, preferred.
