Job Description

Help our community prepare for what comes next. The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center is seeking an Emergency Response Planner to lead public health preparedness efforts across our community. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys strategic planning, coordinating partners, solving complex problems, and making a real difference before, during, and after emergencies. From severe weather and flooding to disease outbreaks and public health emergencies, you will play a key role in ensuring our community is prepared to respond effectively when it matters most. What You'll Do Develop, maintain, and evaluate public health emergency response plans. Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, training, drills, and exercises. Lead and support the agency's Emergency Response Team. Collaborate with emergency management, healthcare partners, schools, first responders, community organizations, and state agencies. Facilitate meetings with community stakeholders and preparedness partners. Conduct tabletop and full-scale emergency exercises. Assist with public health emergency responses and disaster operations. Prepare reports, presentations, and planning documents. Help strengthen community resilience through outreach, education, and preparedness initiatives. What We're Looking For Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and work with diverse community partners. Interest in public health, emergency management, disaster preparedness, healthcare, or community planning. Experience in emergency response, public health, healthcare, emergency management, military service, first responder operations, or a related field is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree in public health, emergency management, environmental health, biological sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for education. Why Join Us?
