Summary:

The Legislative Counsel reviews and analyzes legislation, assists with drafting bills and amendments, prepares internal memoranda on legal and policy issues, engages with legislators and staff on legislation and issues of interest to the PBA, and attends political fundraisers. Internally, this individual represents the Legislative Department at various PBA meetings and events, works cooperatively with other departments to achieve established legislative goals, and assists with PAC-related matters. Duties and 

Responsibilities:

In addition to performing any duties that may be assigned by the Director of Legislative Affairs, the Legislative Counsel is responsible for the following: Assisting with developing and implementing advocacy strategies to advance the legislative positions of the PBA. Engaging and negotiating with legislators and stakeholders on pending legislation. Participating in regular meetings of PBA committees and sections, reporting on pending legislation and other matters of interest in the General Assembly. Reviewing legislation and, as appropriate, referring legislation to PBA committees and sections for further review. Advising PBA committees and sections and assisting in development of proposed legislative positions. Drafting letters conveying the PBA's position on pending legislation and articles for various PBA publications.

Qualifications:

At least two years of experience in PA government relations or legislative affairs Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Availability for some evening and weekend work and occasional travel Ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently Member of the PA Bar in good standing Essential

Providing legal analysis on legislative initiatives Interacting effectively with members and staff of the General Assembly Engaging with and advising PBA members on matters of governmental and legislative affairs Reports

$90,000.00•$105,000.00 per year
