Job Description
The Director of Advocacy and Public Policy is responsible for leading the association's advocacy program by identifying and fostering relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and likeminded organizations. Will work closely with the board, committees, and members to execute policy priorities and focused projects that align with LeadingAge Texas' mission and vision. Issue areas include aging services, long-term care settings such as nursing homes, assisted living, hospice and home health, Medicaid/Medicare, senior housing, and charitable organizations. This position will manage grassroots advocacy, the LATX-PAC, and will represent LeadingAge Texas before the Texas Legislature and state agencies. This role is responsible for tracking and analyzing complex policy changes and communicating clearly in written, virtual, and in-person to members, stakeholders, and legislators. Must be able to work as part of a cooperative team environment and independent of direct supervision. Performs other projects as needed.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of the legislative process, agency rulemaking, grassroots advocacy, and long-term care/aging services field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skill in compiling, evaluating, and presenting legislative information; problem-solving and negotiating; in policy analysis and research. Demonstrated strong analytical skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in a format tailored to specific audiences. Ability to analyze issues, work under pressure and meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and assign and/or supervise the work of others, including contract lobbyists. Ability to identify issues impacting non-profit aging services providers and create and execute innovative solutions. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as part of a team.Similar remote jobs
