Job Description

Join a growing team supporting large-scale electrical infrastructure and construction projects throughout Southern California. Hampton Tedder Electric Co., is a family-owned and operated company established in 1958 with over 65 years of exceptional pride and service. HTE provides in house traffic control planning and field services in support of HTE's electrical construction and infrastructure work across the region. We are seeking a skilled, technically sharp Traffic Control Plan Designer to take ownership of plan design and serve as the department's subject matter expert. This role is central to how HTE delivers compliant, accurate traffic control solutions for complex infrastructure projects across Southern California. You will design temporary traffic control plans from the ground up, navigate municipal approval processes, and interface directly with customers, contractors, and city agencies to see each plan through to execution. This is a role for someone who brings both technical command and professional confidence to the table. You will be trusted to manage your work with autonomy, make decisions within your area of expertise, and represent HTE professionally in customer and agency interactions. The person who thrives here is equally comfortable producing precise CAD-based plan sets and picking up the phone to move an approval forward. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Design temporary traffic control plans (TTCPs) for a variety of construction and infrastructure projects using CAD software (AutoCAD) Ensure all plans comply with MUTCD standards, CA M)UTCD guidelines, the Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH), local government regulations, and project-specific requirements Submit traffic control plans to contractors and governing authorities for review and approval, and manage the follow-through on required modifications Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, contractors, and city agencies throughout the plan development and approval process Attend and represent HTE at city meetings, pre-construction conferences, and regulatory review sessions as required Build basemaps for traffic control plans by researching and compiling jurisdictional data, field conditions, and project-specific site information Conduct occasional field site visits to verify site conditions, confirm plan accuracy, and support field teams as needed Research and comply with jurisdictional requirements unique to each project and municipality Proactively identify potential compliance issues, plan conflicts, or scheduling risks and resolve them before they become problems Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready project documentation Contribute to the development and refinement of department processes and standards as the function grows Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall project and team success Candidate must be able to meet the following requirements: Proficiency in AutoCAD for traffic control plan development Strong working knowledge of

MUTCD, and the Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH) Comfortable and confident representing the company in direct customer-facing interactions, phone calls, and in-person meetings with city agencies and contractors Ability to work with a high degree of independence, set your own daily priorities, and deliver results without close supervision Proactive problem-solving approach with the initiative to anticipate needs and act without waiting to be directed Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and project specifications Strong organizational ability with the capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines consistently and follow through on commitments without reminder Ability to research and apply local, state, and municipal traffic control requirements on a project-by-project basis Must be able to perform standard physical office tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, filing, and sustained sitting or standing at a workstation
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (Preferred) Associate's degree or technical certification in drafting, design, or a related field will be considered Equivalent combination of education and hands-on traffic control design experience may substitute for formal degree requirements
Experience:

MUTCD, and Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH) standards Ability to conduct field site visits and translate site conditions into accurate plan documentation Confident verbal communicator comfortable initiating and managing professional phone and in-person interactions Ability to represent the company professionally in meetings with city officials, contractors, and clients Ability to interpret and apply jurisdictional regulations across multiple municipalities High attention to detail with a commitment to plan accuracy and regulatory compliance Self-directed work style with strong internal accountability and follow-through Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in building processes and taking ownership of outcomes Effective time management across concurrent projects without reliance on external prompting ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certification or equivalent (Preferred) Engineer stamp (Preferred — possession will be considered in compensation determination) Typing speed 45+ WPM Applicant must pass proficiency tests for typing and computer skills before being considered for an interview Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening during the new hire process

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
